According to the delayed registration of birth of his daughter
Valeria by his son Owen, his racial origin was English.

The following is evidence that Charles T. OAKS is the son of James
OAKS IV and Mary Ann DOWLING.

The 1891 Canada census lists Charles and Mary E. OAKS with their five
youngest children. It gives the birthplace of Charles' parents as
Ontario (father) and Nova Scotia (mother), which is somewhat
consistent with the birthplaces of James OAKS IV and Mary Ann
DOWLING. Mary OAKS (nee DOWLING) is listed as being born in Nova
Scotia in the 1871 Canada census in Bayham Twp., and James OAKS is
listed in the 1851 Canada census, and in the 1805 Norfolk County
census, as being born in the U.S. The 1805 census indicates his
father moved from Nova Scotia in 1804, and his obituary says he moved
from Nova Scotia in 1803, which would mean, that although James OAKS
was born in the U.S. and not Ontario, he probably grew up in Ontario
from about the age of three. The 1871 Canada census lists Mary OAKS,
age 60, as born in Nova Scotia. Her age is probably inaccurate. Her
tombstone gives her birthyear as 1800, which would mean she was about
70 years old in 1871.

Charles T. OAKS is buried at Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery, in
Port Burwell, Ontario, with his wife, sister, daughter, and mother,
Mary Ann (1800-1877). There is a single headstone for all five.
Another tomb in the cemetery is for Daniel OAKS (1829-1839), and the
inscription says he is the son of Mrs. Mary Ann OAKS, and he is
probably the brother of Charles T. OAKS. It is odd that Daniel's
father's name is not given. Whether he be deceased or alive, one
would expect his name to be inscribed there as well, unless,
possibly, if there had been a bad marriage. James OAKS IV appears in
the 1851 census in Charlotteville, Norfolk Co., Ontario, with his
second wife Annie BURLINGHAM, and their seven children.
