ELIJAH ESTABROOK(S), was born in 1727/28 in England while his parents
Elijah Estabrook (born Aug. 25, 1703 Lexington, Middlesex Co., Mass.;
married Oct. 1, 1725 Boston, Suffolk Co., Mass.; died Dec. 1, 1740
Sherborn, Middlesex Co., Mass.) and Hannah Daniell (born Apr. 6, 1702
Sherborn, Middlesex Co., Mass.) were there visiting relatives.

NOTE: Elijah Estabrooks was the great-grandson of Rev. Joseph
Estabrook of Concord; ELIJAH< ELIJAH ESTABROOK & HANNAH DANIELL <
JOSEPH ESTABROOK (1869 - 1733) & HANNAH LEAVITT (1864 - 1728) < REV.
JOSEPH ESTABROOK (1640 - 1711) & MARY MASON (1640 - ) < JOSEPH
ESTABROOK (ca. 1610 - ) & ANNE BRAINARD (ca. 1610 - ).

They all returned from their visit in England to live in Rhode Island
in 1730. His family then moved to Sherborn, Mass in 1733. After the
death of Elijah's father in 1740, his uncle Joseph Frost became his
guardian. Elijah stayed in Sherborn until 1746. Elijah married in
1750 in Haverhill, Mass to #1 MARY HACKETT. Elijah and Mary lived in
East Haverhill, Mass from 1750-1757. They moved to Boxford, Mass in
1757. Elijah served from 1758 to 1760 in Col. Prebble's Regiment of
Provincials, and fought at Ticonderoga. He was sent to Halifax in
1759, and remained there until Nov. 25, 1760; during this time he
became a sergeant. Elijah and Mary moved to Halifax and then to
Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1763. They moved to Portland Point
on the Saint John River in 1765. In 1773, they bought 250 acres of
land in Conway, near the mouth of the Saint John River. (An old
census, dated Aug. 1, 1775, shows he had cleared 7 acres of land and
built a log cabin). In 1776, Elijah took part in an expedition
against the British at Fort Cumberland.

NOTE: Ernest Clarke, in "The Siege of Fort Cumberland, 1776", McGill-
Queen's University Press, 1995, a very well researched book, said
Hugh Quinton and Daniel Jewett were asked to muster their militia
along the Saint John River. Edmund Price and Benjamin Bubar of
Gagetown joined "the Cumberland party", as did Elijah Estabrooks of
Conway... But he said all five, Quinton, Jewett, Price, Bubar and
Estabrooks, remained in the St. John River Valley.

Elijah and Mary moved to Gagetown in 1777. After Mary's death, Elijah
married in 1778 in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada to #2 SARAH
HAMMOND. (She had previously been married on September 24, 1764 in
Marblehead, Mass to James Oakes.)

From the Studholm Report (1783): GAGETOWN:
"#8. Elijah Easterbrooks, has a wife and 8 children, a log house with
2 rooms, and about 12 acres of land cleared. Came from Cornwallis
about 16 years past, settled at the mouth of the river, and says he
was drove up by the rebels."

Elijah and Sarah moved to Cambridge (Waterbury) in 1787. He was a
farmer and a member of the Congregational Church. He died shortly
before Aug. 11, 1796 at the home of his son John in Swan Creek,
Queens Co., New Brunswick, Canada. Elijah was buried at Mill Cove.
(In 1932, the gravesite was on the farm of Jefferson Dykeman; the
tombstone was no longer there at that time).

Canada, the name became ESTABROOKS, or in a few cases, ESTABROOKE.
Some branches, returned to the original spelling of ESTABROOK at a
later date, including Elijah's youngest child Hammond, who moved to
Aroostook County, Maine with most of his children.
