| Death Memo |
The following information pertains to the death of Gütle ELKAN:
1) The 1832 death record of her daughter, Klara ISAAK, indicates that
Gütle ELKAN died in Eppelsheim.
2) The first registered death in Eppelsheim was in September 1798.
No death record can be found for Gütle ELKAN in Eppelsheim. She
presumably died sometime before that time.
3) Gütle ELKAN's name does not appear in the 1808 Register of Name
Adoptions for the Jews in Eppelsheim. With a success rate of 100% in
finding death records in Eppelsheim, including all 12 adults who
registered for a name change in 1808, it is highly unlikely that
Gütle ELKAN could have died in Eppelsheim after 1808 and there not be
a record of it.
4) The 1812 marriage record of her son, Johannes HAHN, states that
his parents died during the former regime (presumably before the
French Revolution in 1798 or at least before 1802 when the French
constitution was introduced thus officially ending the occupation
status of the region). |

| Notes for Isaak LÖB (LÖW) |
His name appears always as "Isaak Löw", in the earliest documents in
Eppelsheim, predating his death. However, he signs his name as
"Isaak Löb" in the 1798-1799 (Year VII) Eppelsheim Register of Births
in the entry for Mendle LOESERBÄR.
His 1799 death record gives his age as 67 years. It is not known
with certainty where he was born, but he was probably born in
Eppelsheim. The marriage record of his daughter, Sara states that
his wife, Gütle ELKAN, was born in Ketsch, and that he was "from
Eppelsheim", possibly insinuating that he was born in Eppelsheim, and
lived and died there. There is evidence that one of the wives of
Michel GUMBEL, Mariam UNKNOWN, or Rhese LOEB, both of whom were
residents of Eppelsheim, was Isaak LÖW's sister, providing further
support that the LÖW/LÖB/LOEB family was from Eppelsheim.
Michel GUMBEL's son, Michel HERZ (formerly Herz MICHEL), is the
"cousin" of Isaak LÖW's sons, Johannes and Emanuel HAHN, according
to their 1812 marriage records, and Michel GUMBEL's son, Samuel
MICHEL is a "relative" of Isaak LÖW according to Isaak LÖW's death
record. Rehse (Theresia) LOEB (NEUHEUSSER) is the second wife of
Michel GUMBEL, and may be the sister of Isaak LÖW. It is possible
that Michel GUMBEL's first wife, Mariam UNKNOWN is the sister of
Isaak LÖW. |
