Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I've been exploring all the
links that you sent to me.
My father, David S, is no longer alive, which you have noted in the
family tree. He died of pancreatic cancer. His first wife, my mother,
Winifred Kauffman (I think there are 2 "F's" in Kauffman) was known
as Wynne. I believe they married in Sept 1946 in Phila, PA. I have to
look since I think I have her birth, death, and marriage
certificates.
He then married Marian , a widow, in 1962 and they each adopted the
others children. She died in 1987, I believe in May in Norristown,
PA. I can check with my siblings. My only biological sibling is
Judith Ellen. Frances Sue, Ellen Beth, and Jonathan Miller (he was
given his original last name as his middle name) are my siblings
through the adoption. You have Jonathan listed twice, once under
Jonathan Miller and once under Jonathan Hahn. The second listing that
shows his birthdate as 1959 is incorrect. Their father was Bernard
Miller, who was a chemistry professor at St. Joseph's University.
My father married a third time, I believe in 11/87. He was married to
Mirna (Micki) until he passed. We have not heard from her since then.
My sister, Frances', first husband, Thomas Valanidas died on 10/18/06
in MD.
My sister, Judith's first husband, Edward Burns is deceased as well.
I think it was June 2005. She has remarried. I also don't remember
the date she remarried and will have to ask her.
I married my son's father, David Robert Long, on 4/30/83 in Reading,
PA. We were divorced 10/86. His birthdate was 7/26/56 in Reading, PA.
He passed away on 8/5/08 in Reading, PA.
I still live in Reading, Berks County.
I have to keep going through your links for any other missing info.
Are there a lot of health problems involving cancer on your side of
the family?
I'd love to see pictures of the town in Germany where our ancestors
are from.
Thanks so much.

clear that Henry is the original source of the data dated prior to

Frank E. Hahn Jr.Frank E. Hahn Jr., 94, a longtime attorney who
provided a range of legal services, died Feb. 18 at the Fountains at
Logan Square.

Hahn graduated from Northeast High School in 1928, the University of
Pennsylvania in 1932 and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law
in 1935. He served as president of his alumni class from 1987 to
1992, and chairman of his class' 60th-reunion annual-giving campaign.

He joined the currently named law firm of Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell
and Hippel in 1935, directly after graduating from law school. He
remained at Obermayer throughout his active career, becoming Of
Counsel to the firm in 1986.

As the practice of law evolved into a profession of "specialists,"
Hahn was one of Philadelphia's well-known "generalists," providing a
range of legal services, including labor, real estate, immigration
and family law.

Also active in the community, especially in the area of youth
development and education, Hahn was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of
America, culminating in his service as president of the Philadelphia
Council in 1976-77. He also served on the Regional Advisory Board and
as legal advisor to the Philadelphia Council. For his work, he earned
the Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope and Mary S. Hart Awards.

In addition, he was a member of the Cheltenham Township School Board
for 12 years in various officer positions, including president.

Hahn sat on the Albert Einstein Hospital Board of Trustees since 1952
in various capacities, including secretary and vice chairman. As
chairman of the Nursing Committee, he became an active supporter of
nursing, and received the Dora Mathis Award in 1969 from the
Southeastern Pennsylvania League of Nursing for his contribution to
the profession.

He worked with the Philadelphia and American Bar associations, and
served as a member of the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar
Association, and on the Trust Law and Real Property Committees of the
American Bar Association.

Hahn was admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, the U.S. Supreme
Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S.
District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret "Peggy" Berg; a
daughter, Judith Kramer; a son, Frank E. Hahn III; four
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Thank you so much for writing.
The Sarah Mann I am seeking was born Sarah Schiff (her father passed
away sometime between 1865 and 1870. Her mother, Henrietta
Rothschild, re-married to Ferdinand Fuechsl. She was the great great
aunt of my cousin, Samuel Schiff. I have been trying to help him for
years. We are also trying to find further information of Alfred
Mann's death.
I'll be happy to send you what I have on the Shiff-Fuechsl side.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Alverda S. Hahn
After an illness of only four hours, Alverda S. Hahn, the 15-
year-old daughter of Mr. Henry Hahn, died last Tuesday morning of
cerebro spinal meningitis at her father's home, 1806 North Franklin
street.
Her sad death proved a great shock to her relatives and friends.
She had been in apparently good health on Monday evening and the
rapidity with which the case developed was astounding. She was a
very promising young girl, having just entered the Girls High School.
Her family have the sympathy of the entire community in their
bereavement.
The funeral took place on Wednesday morning and was strickly
private. The interment was made at the Adath Jeshurun Cemetery.

I Certify, That on the 4th day of Febr 1859
Mr. Michael Schaffner
and
Miss Amerlia Hahn
were by me legally joined in Marriage.
R L Gould Minister

NOTE: The month in the date of marriage is not written in legible
handwriting. I believe each of the indexes below are incorrect in
their transcription of this date. The "F" looks like a swirl of a
double "O" followed by a legible "ebr". The year is in question
since it appears after an entry on thepage dated, 8th of August 1860,
where the "5" in "185 " is overwrieen with a "60". However, in the
entry for Schaffner-Hahn, a "9" is appended to the "185 ", as well as
an earlier entry on the same page, both of which cause the chronology
to be affected.

Steve,
I don't have Dale's mother's birth date right here. It is in
some paperwork I
did just after Dale's death. I will have to look it up. Dale was
born Sept. 1,
1939 in Upper Darby Pennsylvania. My birth date is Dec. 12, 1940,
Waco, Texas.
I will have to look up Dale's maternal grandparents names. Hanby
was the last
name. Dunnsmore is a name that keeps showing up in the letters I
have. I
think that they are from that side of the family. There is also a
Mr. Smedley
who figures in that side of the family somehow. I met her paternal
grandmother
when we were married in Florida in 1969, and I think I have a picture
of her
and her husband taken some time earlier. July 12, 1969 is the
correct date of
our marriage. Neither Dale nor I were ever married before. I have
several,
10? unidentified pictures from various time periods. I do not have a
scanner
at this time. I will get back to you when I have more information.

Dear Steve,
I have to tell you right away that my wife, Dale, died this year
on April 8.
It is nearly Day of The Dead here in Mexico and we are having a
memorial for
her and going to the cemetery after dark with flowers, etc. The
custom in this
part of Mexico. I am sure she would have been interested in the
information
you have uncovered, though she never seemed interested in researching
her
family's past. Sorry we were so hard to find. We have moved several
times and
have been in Mexico for the past 15 years. The address here is:
Robert Marlin
Salazar 172
Erongaricuaro, Michoacan
61630
MEXICO

Phone: 503-336-4616 This is a Vonage phone and calls to this number
from outside
the Portland Oregon area will be charged long distance rates to
Portland. A lot
cheaper than a direct call to Mexico. But. Best time to call is
before 10 in the
morning and after 8 at night local time. And I do turn the whole
thing off at
bedtime, about 10. We are on Central daylight savings time until the
end of the
month here in Western Mexico.
There is an old box of photos and letters that Dale has had for
many years since
her parents died. Unfortunately a few years ago a leak in our roof
damaged many
of the photos, and Dale threw most of them away. Some of the
remaining ones are
from her mother's side of the family, but others may be relatives of
yours. If I
had a clue as to the names involved I might be able to discover who
wrote some of
the old letters and if they were from her father's side of the
family. Those
pictures that I am not sure of I will send to you. Dale was not in
touch with
any of her relatives, and had not communicated with them in the past
20 years or
more. I am right now going through some of Dale's stored-away
personal things
and will keep an eye out for anything that might interest you. As
you may have
discovered, there was a break with her father's side of the family
because his
father married outside the Jewish faith. Therefore Dale was only
slightly
acquainted with that side of the family. Dale had no children, so
this is the end
of that line as far as your researches go. Call or write me at
marlin77@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
Robert Marlin

No. 14
In the year one thousand eight hundred thirty-nine, on the twenty-
sixth day of the month of September at one o'clock in the afternoon,
[appeared] before me, Michael Bisser, Adjunct Delegated Civil
Official of the Civil Office of the Community of Mayoral District of
Deidesheim, canton of Duerkheim, District of Frankenthal, in the
Royal Bavarian Pfalz, Ferdinand Wolf, twenty-three years old, born
according to the attached in Deidesheim on the twenty-seventh of
January eighteen hundred sixteen, marital status: unmarried,
ropemaker, residing locally. {gedachter??} Ferdinand Wolf has, as
the attachment indicates, satisfactorly performed his military
service, and before the performance of which, has laid in the hands
of the undersigned official the oath of citizenship, of legal age,
son of David Wolf, seventy-four years old, cantor of the Israelite
Community in Deidesheim, residing there, present here, and approving
of this marriage, and son of his (David's) wedded wife Sara Isack,
without special occupation previously residing in Deidesheim, and
deceased there according to the Death Register Entry # forty-nine of
the year eighteenhundred twenty-eight; and Stephanie Wolf also called
Eva Wolf in adulthood, twenty-three years old, born according to the
attached in Frankenthal on the twentieth of November eighteenhundred
fifteen, unmarried marital status, without special occupation,
residing there, of legal age, daughter of Markus Wolf, sixty-two
years old, Goldsmith and land owner, residing in Frankenthal, present
here and approving of this marriage, and daughter of his wedded wife
Johanna Simon, employed (gewerblich?) in Frankenthal during her life,
residing there, deceased according to the attached on the twenty-
second of June eighteen hundred thirty-six.
above part translated by Joel Streich
and they requested me to proceed to the already proclaimed marriage,
of which the
proclamations were made public at the main gate of the parish hall,
to wit: the first on Sunday, the 18th of August 1839 and the second
on Sunday, the 25th August of the same
year, each time at 11 o'clock in the morning.
According to the attached certification of the mayor's office from
Frankenthal, the announcements of the marriage had been made public
there on the same dates in the same year, each time at 10 o'clock in
the morning. Since there were no objections to the marriage, I then -
- after having read (aloud) the above mentioned documents and the 6th
chapter 'About Marriage' of the Civil Law -- asked both spouses-to-be
if they accept each other as spouse. Then, both being asked
separately and having
answered positively (with yes) each for himself, I declared in the
name of the Law, that Ferdinand Wolf and Stephanie Wolf are attached
to each other in marriage. Then I drafted this document in the
presence of Isak D. Wolf, 34 years old, grocer, brother of the
husband, living in Deidesheim, Joseph Kaufmann, 50 years old, landed
proprietor, not related, Abraham Weil, 40 years old, clerk, not
related, the latter two living in (Frenheim?), and David Kohn, 33
years old, teacher, not related, living in Deidesheim.
They have, after it was read to them, together with me and the
contractors signed this document.
