According to Lewis Parker Abell, he died "at his home in the city of
Welland, in his 98th year. He married Sarah Spencer of Thorold,
Welland County, Ont., and had one or two daughters, and one son,
Edward R. Hilton, with whom he resided in Welland, and who married
shortly after his father's death, but passes away a year or two
later, leaving no issue."
