Notes for John GICKALL
He is baptized in Batley, and marries in Batley, and has four
children all baptized in Batley, before he remarries in Batley in
1678. No burials have been found for him or for his two wives. His
son, Frances GICKALL, dies in Ossett, Dewsbury in 1692 at 19 years of
age. This possibly suggests that John GICKALL moved his family to
Ossett between 1678 and 1692. In support of this, his son, John
GICKALL Jr., married at All Saints Parish Church, Dewsbury in 1701,
and the record of marriage states, "Johannes Giggall et Maria Oldroyd
de Ossett ." It is not clear from this record whether his wife, or
both of them, are residents of Ossett, but it seems likely that both
are residents, given the death of brother, Frances, in Ossett nine
years earlier.
