Contents:

Parcel of deeds to Moor End farm and closes in Dodworth. Closes
called Hollingcroft and the 3 Birdfields or Birchfields in Dodworth
were conveyed in 1614 by Thomas Cawthorne of Benbank to Thomas Hanson
of Thurgoland and by him to Thomas Hawksshirt of the More End; they
were also the subject of a mortgage by Hanson to William Ellis of
London and so came to John Ibotson, clerk, of Wigtwisle, the latter's
brother-in-law. Hawkeshirst mortgaged and finally sold them to John
Kay of Padley House, Yorks. 1622-3. Kay purchased the tithes of Sir
Gervas Cutler in 1628. In 1717 this property (with others) was left
by the will of Martha Adams, widow of William Adams of Banktop,
attorney, and sold by her trustees to John Spencer of Cannon Hall.
There is a 21 year lease of the farm by Spencer to Joseph Denton in
1727. Also abstract of title and schedule.

The parcel includes the following deeds:-

Agreement to levy a fine and lead uses, relating to the foregoing
premises and several others, between John Kay of Padley house, John
Ibotson of Wigtwisle, Thomas Wawkeshirst of the More end, William
Morton of Waldershelfe and Thomas Hanson of Thurgoland. The property
and uses are as follows: the messuage, etc. in Hunshelf and
Snowdenhill to John Ibotson; the closes in Dodworth called
Hollinclough, the acre and Birchfields to John Kay; two closes in
Thurgoland called the Intakes to Thomas Hanson.
21 June, 1623.

Conveyance (lease and release). Nicholas Burley of Woolley, the Rev.
George Staniland of Worsbrough and Abraham Barber of Wakefield,
stationer (trustees under the will of Martha Adams, widow, who was
daughter and heir of John Barber late of Gawber Hall, yeoman, and
Susan his wife who was sister and heir of Samuel Kay of Thurgoland -
both deceased) to John Spencer of Cannon Hall. Messuage called Moor
End in Dodworth in the parish of Silkstone and closes called the Old
Holling Croft, Nether Holling Croft, Little Ing, Narr Bird or
Birchfield etc., with the tithes, and also a pew in Silkstone parish
church, for £341. 14 February, 1717/18.

Reciting
(1) will of Martha Adams, by which she devised to John Platts, Thomas
Platts and Francis Platts of Dodworth, Yorks., and to Sarah Platts,
wife of George Couldwell, 3 closes (now divided into 7) called Segg
Closes, at Silkstone Smithys, in Cawthorne.
(2) lease and release of 4 and 5 May 1720, by which Francis Platts
conveyed to John Platts, Thomas Platts, and George Couldwell, a
fourth part of all closes mentioned below.
By this indenture, the parties make partition of the lands as
follows.
(1) George Couldwell to have part of Broom Close, and part of Bridge
Close, 5 acres 3 roods 24 poles.
(2) Thomas Platts to have the middle part of the two above named
closes, 5 acres 3 roods 24 poles.
(3) John Platts shall have the 3 closes called the Segg Close, part
of the Broom Close, and the Bridge Close, 5 acres 3 roods 24 poles.
